Design

The initial skatepark design was drawn up after consultation with the local Penicuik skaters and riders. However, after the soil tests were conducted for the proposed site the discovery that the water table was close to the surface meant that the sunken bowl style design would not be feasible. A new layout was then designed based on the skatepark being built at ground level with all features above the ground and landscaped into the surrounding park. The aim was to try and maintain the flow of a sunken bowl style park.

The skatepark design incorporates a variety of bowl and street style features which are detailed below. Click on the images to see them at full size.
